Beyonce Backs Marriage Equality: ‘If You Like It You Should Be Able To Put A Ring On It’

Beyonce joined the fight for marriage equality on Tuesday following the historic Supreme Court hearing regarding Prop 8, California’s ban on gay marriage.

In a handwritten note on red paper, the 31-year-old star wrote, “If you like it you should be able to put a ring on it,” a play on the lyrics of her massive hit “Single Ladies.”

Beyonce followed the poignant words with “#WeWillUniteForMarriageEquality.”

Earlier on Facebook, she wrote, “It’s about TIME!!! #EQUALITY #MarryWhoYouLove,” along with posting the Human Rights Campaign logo.

The fight for equality runs in Beyonce’s family.

In May 2012, Jay-Z spoke out about President Obama’s support of same-sex marriage, telling CNN, it was “the right thing to do.”

“You choose to love whoever you love,” the rapper said at the time. “That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.”
