Billboard Chart: ‘Dreamgirls’ Makes A Leap, But Omarion Finishes First

Sometime actor and former B2K lead singer Omarion debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart with his second solo album, “21,” which sold 119,392 copies. This is Omarion’s second #1 debut, as his first album accomplished the same feat in 2005.

Omarion’s album is the only brand new release to make the Top 10 this week, and the sales numbers are lower across the boards since the holiday buying frenzy has died down.

Despite the decline in overall sales this week, Akon has something to smile about — his album “Konvicted” made a leap back up the chart to #2, even though it sold over 100,000 less copies than last week. Akon also has two singles holding fast to Top 5 positions on the Hot Downloaded Singles chart.

The soundtrack to “Dreamgirls” finds itself leaping up nearly 30 positions to land at #3, due to the buzz surrounding the film itself and its strong performances from Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson.

Last week’s chart-topper, Nas’ “Hip Hop Is Dead” drops three places to come in 4th this week.

Young Jeezy comes back to the Top 10 in 5th place with his previous #1, “The Inspiration.”

Fergie and Beyonce play a game of switcheroo over on the Hot Downloaded Singles chart, swapping positions from last week, with “Fergalicious” coming out on top.
