Billy understood how Paris Hilton made a music video. He knew she loved the camera. The music part however, confused his young mind.
The first time he heard her sing karaoke, he wasn?t impressed. What kind of computer technology went into making her sound good during her ?Stars Are Blind,? single, he wondered.
And so he entered the recording studio, where, he would find out.
?We are about to have young Bill sing the song eight times which is what we normally do whether you?re Celine Dion or Whitney Houston,? David told the studio gatherers.
?Let?s try it from the top,? he instructed Billy.
?There?s a simmmmplllleee honestttyyyy in a child that makesssss you seeeeee,? he warbled.
??Child? was good,? David snorted.
?So was ?Simple?? Kara quickly chimed in.
They picked apart his every word so that the Wizard Yokum, the man running the desk could assemble the best takes.
?I know that I am right where I belong,? he sang again.
?Whoa!? Kara exclaimed. ?That was it.?
Billy was doing better than he thought he could.
?If I haadddd threeeee wishhhhessssss,? he belted.
?Nice,? David said.
Things began to go well, when Billy just hit a wall.
?You?re the greatest prooooofff,? he sang awfully.
Again and again he sang it, but it just wouldn?t work.
It was then Kara came up with an idea. She followed Billy into the recording booth.
She sang the line with passion and drama, adding a line at the end.
?You?re the greatest proof that I did something with my life,? she sweetly cooed.
Billy tried it.
?It?s betters,? she exclaimed.
David didn?t agree. ?No it?s not better,? he barked.
?He is getting the rhythm,? she answered.
?Yeah ?cause he is doing it ten f****ing times,? David cursed.
Billy had had enough. He stormed out of the room.
?Here?s a song about my three daughters and I want to make it perfect for them and I?m just not good enough,? he sighed dejectedly. ?It?s hard to keep going more and more and keep stinking and stinking.?
David was impressed.
?He is so focused on getting it right and he beats himself up which great artists do,? he stated.
Billy felt re-inspired. He headed back in the booth.
?You?re the greeaaatteesttt proofffff,? he sang.
?That was better,? Kara and David said in unison.
Hats off to Paris and anyone who steps in a recording booth, Billy thought. It wasn?t easy.
