Billy Ray Cyrus Talks Miley’s Hair & Inspiration For New Album: My Family Was ‘Falling Apart’

Chalk up another point for Miley Cyrus’ new ‘do — her fiancé, Liam Hemsworth is a fan, as – as is dad Billy Ray Cyrus.

“I love the ‘do,” Billy Ray told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover of his daughter’s blond pixie cut on Friday’s Access Hollywood Live. “She looks so pretty and I’m proud of her [because] it’s something to have one of the most recognizable faces in the world, one of the most recognizable images in the world, and, as President Clinton would say, to have that much ‘brass’ to step up and say ‘I’m gonna totally re-do my image’? Wow.”

Adding, “I think she looks great. Carrying the brass for the Cyrus family!”

Billy Ray, 51, is showing some “brass” of his own – the country star is set to make his Broadway debut in “Chicago” November 5, and is releasing an emotionally raw new album, “Change My Mind,” later this month.

“These songs that are on this album – it’s my life,” he said. “[It’s] very real and [full of] a lot of truth and honesty.”

One song in particular — “That’s What Daddys Do” — sheds light on the struggles the singer recently endured and how he powered through (he and wife Tish announced they planned to end their marriage in October, 2010, but called off divorce plans seven months later).

“[It] was pretty much a year-and-a-half ago or so [when there was] a lot of controversy in my life and things just kinda felt like [they] were all falling apart – especially in my family,” he explained of how he came to write the tear-inducing ballad. “I said, ‘You know what? You’ve just gotta go put everything back together, Cyrus. You’re the dad. That’s what daddys do.’ And the song just came to me in that moment.”

“Change My Mind” hits stores on September 23.
