Billy’s Blog: Greetings From Vacation (April 8, 2010)

Greetings from vacation. This is my view. On second look, my hands in my pocket is pulling the seat of my pants tight…not sure that’s so flattering.

We have emerged from a spring skiing storm like none I’ve seen in the 5 years I’ve been a (part-time) resident up here. At one point I was skiing the Erika’s Gold trail at Park City and I stopped midway through, snow up to my mid-thigh, and I just started laughing.

If I could capture, bottle and sell that kind of natural high, I would. I’d also give it to Lindsay Lohan for free.

My children are skiing really well. Lillie is 5 and she won’t stop…loves ski school and is always raring to go. Mary in the middle is a thoughtful, stylistic skier who loves the mountain. Josie is a bomber like her dad used to be, and likes to take hot cocoa (hi Conan) breaks a lot. We clash a little.

I will not allow my kids to give up on skiing. They’ll thank me for it one day. My parents let me quit piano after 2 solid years as a kid, under the intense pressure of my complaints, and I wish they’d battled me and won. I’d like to play now.

Today is an off day…I’m going ice skating with my girls, sledding and then tonight…bowling.

I’ve been paying attention to the news and here are my quick thoughts:

Tiger’s new Nike ad: big call to go with the voice of Earl from beyond. Felt exploitive for a TV ad and a little desperate. I do not like it.

Tiki Barber: C’mon man.

Michael Lohan: a bold declaration about saving your daughter’s life followed immediately by an engagement announcement to a former Star Magazine writer just further marginalizes a man on what should be the ultimate mission. He has a good heart but cannot suppress his own ego.

Doorbell just rang. FedEx dropped off Kate Gosselin’s new book. Dressed in pastels on the cover, the picture of warmth, hair never better, the title is: “I just want you to know: Letters To My Kids on Love, Faith, and family”. She is smiling as best she can and I’ve told her in person, she should try and smile more. She’s actually a pretty woman. I will now read this book in preparation for my interview with her next week.

I have so many questions. Feel free to send me yours.
