Billy’s Blog: Teri’s Tears: May 2, 2006

In Touch Weekly released a story that alleges Ryan Seacrest and Paula Abdul are in couples therapy because they haven’t spoken for more than three weeks… things are that icy.

How uninspired can it get? I read that story this morning and realized there are just too many outlets reporting celebrity news. Poor ‘In Touch’ is looking for their piece of the pie, a story that they can put out there and hope others will glom onto (and others will, like morning radio shows whose vetting system is limited to an intern printing it from the Web and handing it to the DJ).

According to our sources, it isn’t true and it’s a great example of the celebrity bubble getting ever closer to popping.

As for Teri Hatcher’s interview on “Oprah”… wow. When Teri sat there and watched the video from the family of fourteen-year-old Sarah, who killed herself after years of being molested by the same man that tortured Teri, she began to cry.

I felt Teri’s pain and hurt really badly inside for her and even more, for little Sarah. Imagine a sweet, innocent life like that unable to go on! That crime is a sickness for which I feel no compassion. It should be punishable by the most severe means available.

When the audience applauded for Teri, I wanted them to stop. She doesn’t feel like a champ; there is nothing to celebrate. What Teri did is muster the courage to make her and Sarah’s tormenter pay a price but I fear that price will not be enough.

There is no victory here.

Oprah did a great job as always. She and Vanity Fair are the two outlets that have “tell all” parameters with which celebs comply. They have made their space that coveted.

Can you imagine a publicist jumping in on an Oprah interview to change topics? Do it for a minute… it’s funny.
