Bindi Irwin
is fondly remembering an important rite of passage.
The
“Dancing with the Stars” Season 21 champ took to Instagram on
Thursday to share a throwback photo collage from her very first prom.
Bindi
explained to her followers why the occasion was an especially big deal as a
native Aussie.

“1 year ago. We don’t really have Prom in Australia,” she captioned. “But this wonderful human being is American and when his Prom came around he invited me to Florida to go with him.”
The “wonderful human” is Bindi’s boyfriend, Chandler Powell, whom she’s been dating since 2013.

She donned a knee-length, A-line gown with black lace sleeves for
the special night night – a look she rewore
to the AACTA Awards in Sydney last December – as well as other prom must-haves, like a baby blue corsage
that matched Chandler’s tie.
Bindi said the experience was one she’ll always remember—even if
it’s still a bit surreal.
“I can’t believe this really happened, I felt like I was
living in a movie and was a real life Disney princess. Gosh I’m blessed,”
she wrote. “Thank you @chandlerpowell it meant the world to me.”
Going
to prom isn’t the only teenage milestone the 17-year-old has shared on social
media.

In March,
she posted a snap showing off her brand-new provisional driver’s license –
which she got with the help of a memento from her late dad, Steve Irwin.
“It was wonderful to take my test in
St George and pass the first time in my Dad’s giant old ute!” Bindi
captioned.
