Blake Lively’s ‘Green Lantern’ Goal: ‘I Want To Be A Hero To My Nephews & Nieces’

As Blake Lively gets ready to take on the role of “Green Lantern” leading lady Carol Ferris, it’s not just the fanboys she’s worried about impressing with her geek chic chops – it’s her family.

“All I want is to be a hero to my nephews and nieces,” Blake said in an interview with Vogue for the June 2010 issue. “I’m going to be the coolest aunt ever.”

The comic book movie role is a departure from the norm for the actress best known for playing “Gossip Girl’s” Upper East Side resident blonde bombshell, Serena van der Woodsen — who isn’t used to high-powered action scenes.

“Our director likes it real — the fights close and dirty,” she told Vogue, noting she’s working with a stunt coordinator from several James Bond movies, as well as Cirque du Soleil acrobats to perfect her big screen battle techniques.

Yet, it’s not all pain and no gain for Blake.

“I’m 40 feet in the air, spiraling around. That’s the best workout you can ever do because it’s all core,” she continued. “You do that for ten minutes and you should see your body the next day! It’s so exhilarating, so thrilling—and nauseating.”

“Green Lantern,” starring Ryan Reynolds in the title role, is set to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.
