Blake Shelton Reacts To Cassadee Pope’s Success With ‘Over You’ On ‘The Voice’

“The Voice’s” Cassadee Pope is still in the Top 10 of the iTunes charts with her version of the Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton song, “Over You,” and the single’s continued success has touched the reality singing competition coach.

“It was just a release for me to finally get that out,” Blake told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman earlier this week, about the song, which is about the loss of his brother, Richie Shelton, who passed away when Blake was just a teenager.

“I didn’t expect all these things that have happened with that song — with Miranda, first, and now with Cassadee. I didn’t see any of that coming,” he said. “It was just a way for me to finally, you know, let it out.”

Blake said the continued impact of the song, which won the singer and his wife Song of the Year at the recent Country Music Awards, is touching.

“That’s the cool thing about music,” he continued. “That’s what it’s supposed to do. It’s supposed to be real things about real people and that’s why it’s connecting in the way it is and that’s why it’s connected with Miranda and now with Cassadee, who did it in her own way, for her own reasons.”

Cassadee is one of Blake’s two “The Voice” team members still competing on the NBC show, and the country star admitted to Laura, he can’t help but care deeply about his performers.

“I’m really starting to get wrapped up in this thing. It happens to me every year. I always think — especially this year — I thought, ‘You know what? I’m gonna do my part and not get so emotionally connected and not so wrapped up in these contestants because it just breaks your heart when you see ‘em go,’” he said. “And I can already tell you right now that it’s happened to me again. I’m right there with ‘em and I’ll fight to the death for both of ‘em. They’re both really good people, first and foremost, and that’s the most important thing. But they’re here because they’re talented and they both deserve to be here.”

“The Voice” continues Monday at 8/7c on NBC.
