Bob Barker, Come On Down! You’re Getting Two TV Specials!

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 4, 2007) — Bob Barker has been in show business for 50 years, and has hosted the longest running game show in television history, “The Price is Right,” for 35 of them. Barker will retire from the daytime show in June, but not before he’s celebrated with two primetime specials airing on CBS in May.

On Wednesday, May 16, CBS will present “The Price is Right Million Dollar Spectacular.”In this special primetime edition of the show, contestants will have the opportunity to win bigger prizes than usual, and even the chance to spin the giant wheel for $1 million!

The following night, CBS will honor the man himself with “Bob Barker: A Celebration of 50 Years on Television.” The special will include Barker’s reminiscences about his 35 years on “The Price Is Right” and his television career in general, along with highlighting some classic moments from the long-running game show.

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, speaks of Barker’s well-deserved tributes:”After 50 years in show business and 35 years on CBS, we want to give Bob a primetime sendoff befitting of an entertainment icon. Audiences everywhere will enjoy playing one more primetime show with Bob and then celebrating his amazing career and the moments that made his reign on ‘The Price Is Right’ so memorable.”

Barker told reporters in January why now was the right time for him to take a bow, saying he wanted to retire “while I’m still young” (he’s 83).

He also pointed out that not only is he known for “The Price Is Right,” he’s also popular among young people due to his cameo role in the Adam Sandler film “Happy Gilmore.”In a now-famous scene, he brawls with Sandler on the golf course, beating him soundly. To add insult to injury, hecaps off the fightwith a now-infamous line:”Now, you’ve had enough… b-tch!”

The primetime specials celebrating Bob Barker will air Wednesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 17 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
