Boy George: ‘I Can Identify’ With Justin Bieber (Exclusive)

Boy George says he can relate to the recent antics of Justin Bieber.

The 52-year-old singer sat down with Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson in an exclusive interview where he talks about relating to the recently arrested young pop star and his own journey to sobriety.

“I can definitely identify with it completely and I can also identify with the fact that if you said anything to him, he’d laugh at you. Because I would have,” the singer, who recently dropped his new album, “This Is What I Do,” said of Bieber.

The Culture Club lead singer, who has been sober for six years, told Shaun that during the height of his career, he would not have taken anyone’s advice about how to behave.

“If you said to me, ‘You know what? You’re messing this up.’ I wouldn’t have listened because you don’t listen when you’re that age… you don’t and that’s a shame because I could’ve saved myself a lot of drama.

“A lot of money as well,” he said with a laugh.

Boy George is glad social media wasn’t a thing during his wild years.

“I am really grateful that I kind of did a lot of growing up out of the spotlight because there [are] enough things on the internet that I hate,” he told Shaun. “There are enough ugly pictures of me out there, so having anymore would be really depressing.”

As for getting and staying sober, the singer explained that after years of ups and down, he had an epiphany.

“I think leading up to getting clean was such a kind of drama for me… so many awful things happened that once I sort of got to that place where I decided… this has to stop, I kind of knew it’s what I needed to do,” he said. “Since that day, you know, it’s been pretty easy.”
