Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie ‘Devastated’ By Haitian Earthquake, Donate $1 Million To Help

Some of Hollywood’s biggest names are rallying their fans to help the people of Haiti following the devastating 7.0 earthquake that ravaged the island nation on Tuesday.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who previously traveled to Haiti to lend their star power to musician Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Foundation, said they were “devastated” by the tragic news.

“We are devastated by the news from Haiti,” the duo said in a statement to The Agence France-Presse. “We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”

And on Wednesday evening, news broke that Brad and Angelina, through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation, were donating $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, to help out with relief work in Haiti.

“It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence and unrest for so many decades,” Angelina said in a statement according to People.

“We understand the first response is critical to serve the immediate needs of countless people who are now displaced from their homes, are suffering trauma, and most require urgent care,” Brad added.

Other celebrities used Twitter to express their sorrow over the devastation in Haiti and urged people to dig deep in their pockets.

“People in Haiti need our help and attention right now,” Ben Stiller wrote.

Twitter couple Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore asked their followers to donate to UNICEF.

Other celebrity Twitters urging the public to help in the relief effort include Paris Hilton, Paula Abdul, Katy Perry, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Diddy and LL Cool J.

“Private Practice” star Tim Daly offered up his own unique ideas of how to help Haiti.

’[If] I were king I would order the top 10 US corporations to open schools and build factories/create jobs in Haiti,” Tim Tweeted. “If I were king Wall St. Would have to donate 75 percent of their bonuses to Haiti.”

“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest asked his fans to donate through The Red Cross, writing, “If u haven’t see this yet, easy to help. Text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to @RedCross relief efforts in Haiti.”

On Wednesday, The Associated Press reported that officials fear that hundreds of thousands of people may have died in the quake.
