Bret Michaels Undergoes Emergency Appendectomy

Bret Michaels thought he had a severe case of the flu, but the rocker/reality star ended up in the hospital for an appendectomy.

Bret began experiencing stomach pain on Sunday night while in San Antonio, Texas for a show. Just before 1 AM, the 47-year-old was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent an emergency appendectomy.

“Moments before he was to take the stage last night (April 11) in San Antonio, doctors at Sea World urged Bret Michaels to go to the hospital as the singer had been suffering all day from severe stomach pains and what was assumed to be a severe case of the flu,” a statement on Bret’s Web site said.

“After further examination by doctors in San Antonio it was determined that the singer was suffering from an acute appendicitis. He was rushed into emergency surgery at 1:00 AM. According to doctors, Michaels, who remains in the hospital, is doing well and beginning the recovery process,” the statement continued. “Michaels who has been known to perform under extreme conditions that would make most performers cancel, will unfortunately have no choice but to reschedule some of his April tour dates. A listing of all dates being rescheduled will be posted to his website in the coming days.”
When contacted by Access Hollywood, his rep added, “He is doing well and recovering.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, “The Celebrity Apprentice” contestant, who is also a diabetic, suffered a broken nose at the 2009 Tony Awards, when a set piece hit him in the face.
