Brian Grazer Looking For Hungry Oscar Host; Says Brett Ratner Supportive Of His Producer Role

Producer Brian Grazer is looking for a particular type of star to host the 2012 Oscars – someone who is hungry for the gig.

“It’s the best job in the world, it’s a hard job,” he told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent on Thursday in Los Angeles. “You really want someone who’s almost looking at it as a sort of civil servant, where they’re feeling like, ‘We’re thrilled to be here, dying to do it, waking up early, I’m thinking about it all night.’”

It was revealed on Wednesday that Brian would be producing the show – replacing Brett Ratner – alongside multi-Emmy Award winner Don Mischer. Following Ratner’s exit from the award show, host Eddie Murphy also pulled out.

Brian actually produced Brett’s latest film, “Tower Heist,” and he revealed the director is behind him.

“He’s thrilled and I know that he’s had contact with Don and he’s thrilled that we’re a team and doing the Oscars,” Brian told Tim.

On Thursday, Brian and Don said they expected to discuss the open host position.

The actual meat of the show, however, won’t be scheduled until early next year, Don said.

“This is the point where you start that process,” Don said. “Nothing gets completely locked in until you know the nominations, which will be January 24.”

The Academy Awards will take place on February 26, 2012.
