‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’: First Look At Renee Zellweger In Upcoming Sequel

Bridget Jones is back!

Universal Pictures UK Tweeted the first look at “Bridget Jones’s Baby” on Friday, the long-anticipated third film in the romantic comedy franchise.

The image suggests Renee Zellweger’s title character has upgraded her pen-and-paper journal for a more modern version, as she cradles an iPad and offers a sweet smile.

More than a decade after previous installment “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,” the lovable Brit has now embarked upon wedded bliss with Colin Firth’s London barrister, Mark Darcy, and possibly parenthood.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the film will not be adapted from author Helen Fielding’s third novel in the series, “Mad About The Boy,” which included a controversial fate for Colin’s stuffy-but-dashing fan favorite.

Hugh Grant, who co-starred in the first two films as Bridget’s smarmy boss and former lover Daniel Cleaver, won’t be reprising his role for the upcoming sequel. The actor told The Independent in 2014 that he feels he’s no longer able to pull off the kind of leading man roles he made famous in “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Notting Hill.”

“I do think that if it was just me and a girl batting our eyelids at each other in a full-out romantic comedy, I would look a little sinister and weird at my age,” he said.

Hugh’s absence doesn’t mean there isn’t another potential romantic foil lined up, however. Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey will appear among the “Bridget Jones’s Baby” cast, and shared an Instagram photo from the movie’s London studio in September.

“Nice to be working in England. Renee and Colin are an absolute joy to work with!” he wrote.
