If you’ve been following this blog, you know that last week was going to be something special! I was so thrilled that we got permission to use Gretchen Wilson’s song “Redneck Woman.” This song is my anthem, the type of song I hum around the house and that appeals to many Americans.
Well, not all Americans! It didn’t play so well in Hollywood.
To get in the mood for the quickstep, Mark and I went to a shooting range. Believe it or not, some people on the internet got upset that I shot a moose target. Not a moose, mind you, but a paper moose outline. Of course, a few weeks ago, my dad took Willow and me on a moose hunt. (This is what keeps our freezers full at home!) I found it funny that people were upset I shot a moose outline, but didn’t say a word about Mark shooting a human outline!
The judges did not like my dance routine at all. Len said my “hoe down” was “low down.” Carrie said that we broke the rules – which, it turns out, was entirely true, but I had no idea! (That’s why her “slam back” comment was a little jarring.) “Breaking hold” is apparently against the rules, but Mark took the chance so we could have a lot more fun with the song. Apparently, others “broke hold” too last week, but the judges didn’t slam them for it! (Watch it here and judge for yourself!)
Anyway, let me just say this: I am so honored to be on “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” and am thankful for the opportunity! I want to stay on all the way to the end, and I appreciate all you guys calling, texting, E-mailing, and Facebooking your votes for me! If you want to be a part of my journey, E-mail me so I can add you to my “DWTS” mailing list. (My address is BristolsBlog@gmail.com, please use the subject line: DWTS.) Also, you can find me on Facebook, follow my blog on Twitter, and read my blog here.
As crazy as this experience has been, I’m so grateful to be going through this with my family. Last week, Mom, Dad, Willow and Piper were there, as well as my Aunt Molly, and my cousin McKinley. There’s something meaningful about gathering together before performing and remembering what’s actually important.
Family, love, prayers, and faith.
This week? We will be doing the paso. The last time I was on the show, I scored very high on this dance. That means there’s a little pressure! We’re going to be doing something completely different than “Redneck Woman.” Will the judges appreciate that I’m trying something out of the box? I hope so! On Tuesday night, we’ll be having our first ever double elimination. That means our dance will be more important than ever and your votes will be more important than ever.
Thank you for everything!
