‘Britain’s’ Got Talent’s’ Judges On Susan Boyle: ‘We Owe Her An Apology’

“Britain’s’ Got Talent” judges Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden have apologized to singing sensation Susan Boyle.

In an appearance on CBS’s “Early Show” on Friday morning, the two expressed their remorse for prejudging the 47-year-old before she wowed them and the world with her rendition of “I Dreamed A Dream,” from the musical “Les Miserables,” on the UK talent competition program.

“The minute she walked onstage we all, and the audience, completely judged her on her appearance and everything else. And I hate saying that,” Amanda, a television star in the UK, said. “We judged a book by its cover, unfortunately, and we’re all very cynical.”

Piers, a former British tabloid editor, took the opportunity to express his regret about how they treated Susan.

“I would just like to apologize to Susan Boyle because I think it’s long overdue,” he told “Early Show” host Julie Chen. “I think we owe her on apology because it was an amazing performance. We were all laughing at her when she started, and by the end the last laugh was on us.”

Piers said their fellow judge, Simon Cowell, was also humbled by Susan’s performance.

“It took two seconds for Simon and I to feel very stupid.”

The judges also answered the question on everyone’s mind – does Susan need a makeover or should she remain the same?

“I do not want Simon sending her his dentist and I do not want Simon sending her to his hairdresser,” Amanda said. “So, I think we’ll keep her as she is. I don’t want to turn her into a glamour puss. I think that we’re all kind of rooting for the underdog here. And in the present climate and the world the way it is, it just goes to show that you can dream your whole lifetime, and dreams can still come true. Anything is possible.”

Among Susan’s dreams, beyond winning “Britain’s Got Talent”? Singing for the British monarch.

“I’d like to perform in front of the Queen if I can,” she said in a taped interview on “The Early Show.” “She’s a very regal lady, a very lovely lady.”

Susan will return to the British reality show at the end of May, when the show airs live episodes from May 24 through May 30.
