Brittany Murphy’s Father: ‘She Was Just A Regular Gal’

As friends and colleagues continue to speak out over the death of Brittany Murphy, her father says his daughter was loved by all those who knew her.

“She was just an absolute doll since she was born,” Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, told The Associated Press from his home in Branford, Fla. “Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her — people that made movies with her, people on a cruise — they all loved her. She was just a regular gal.”

Bertolotti – who said Murphy’s brother was the one who informed him of his daughter’s passing — admitted he didn’t know many of the details surrounding the actress’ death. After divorcing Murphy’s mother when the actress was very young, he noted he hadn’t seen his daughter for several years.

Murphy was born in Atlanta in 1977 – the same city where Bertolotti served time in Atlanta Federal Prison. The former “Clueless” star was raised in New Jersey before moving to Los Angeles with her mother to pursue a career in acting.

“She was just talented,” Bertolotti added. “And I loved her very much.”

But it was her mother Sharon – who found her daughter unresponsive in the bathroom of her Hollywood home on Sunday — who Murphy long credited with her big screen success.

“When I asked my mom to move to California, she sold everything and moved out here for me,” Murphy previously told reporters. “I was really grateful to have grown up in an environment that was conducive to creating and didn’t stifle any of that. She always believed in me.”
