Bruce Willis: New ‘Die Hard’ Better Than First

Access Hollywood was on the set with Bruce Willis watching the actor take his share of lumps filming “Live Free or Die Hard.” And now that the finished product is about to hit theaters, Access’ Maria Menounos sat down with Bruce to make sure he made it through in one piece.

So how does the latest installment stack up to the original?

“I heard you said somewhere that this film is better than the first,” Maria told Bruce.

“That was our goal. Our goal was to be able so say that,” Willis grinned. “It’s at least as good if not better at times that the first film.”

Believe it or not, it was 19 years ago that Bruce hit the big screen as the tough-as-nails, wisecracking John McClane and to this date, “Die Hard” has stood the test of time. Entertainment Weekly even rated the film #1 on its list of greatest action movies of all-time.

“It’s almost a throwback movie,” Bruce said of the new film. “I got to do probably 75 percent of my own stunts.”

Of course, those stunts didn’t come without a price tag.

“There’s a fight sequence between myself and Maggie Q that rivals any fight sequence I’ve ever done,” he revealed.

That would be Maggie Q. – of “M:i:III” fame – a martial arts expert who gave Bruce a bit of a headache when she accidentally kicked him in the head during one of the scenes.

“She does a pretty good job of whipping my ass,” he smiled.

But better watch the language Bruce, because unlike the original R-rated “Die Hard,” this time around it’s PG-13.

Turning the tables on Maria, Bruce asked if it made a difference.

“Let me ask you a question, did it feel like a PG-13 film?” he asked her.

“Not at all, actually,” Maria admitted.

“Not at all. There you go, tell your fans,” he joked.

And of course, it wouldn’t be “Die Hard” without that trademark John McClane line.

“We can say it. Just bleep it out,” he said during the interview. “Yippee Kay Yay Mother F*****r!”

“Live Free or Die Hard” hits theaters June 27.
