Bryan Singer On Taylor Lautner In ‘X-Men: First Class’ Rumors

Could Hollywood’s hottest werewolf – Taylor Lautner – play one of Marvel’s most beloved characters – Wolverine? “X-Men: First Class” writer and producer Bryan Singer believes so – but unfortunately, scheduling conflicts mean this fan boy dream is looking quite unlikely.

“I wanted Taylor [Lautner] to do it, I really did,” Bryan told Syfy’s on Sunday.

“He’s doing a movie in Pittsburgh called ‘Abduction,’ and then he’s got the next ‘Twilight’ movie,” he continued. “We talked about it a lot – he is a friend – and I really wanted to make it work.”

Bryan, who directed “X-Men” and X2: X-Men United,” warned that fans will most likely not see “The Twilight Saga” star fighting evil mutants.

“It just doesn’t look like it’s possible to do it,” he added.

As previously reported on, the original big screen Wolverine, Hugh Jackman, wondered if the 18-year-old actor was capable for sporting the mutant’s signature look.

“My only question is – can he grow mutton chops?” the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” star recently told E! Online’s Marc Malkin, adding, “Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version — certainly about a billion young girls would.”

Previously announced and reported stars attached to “X-Men: First Class” include James McAvoy (as Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alice Eve (Emma Frost) and new dad Aaron Johnson, who The Hollywood Reporter said will play Cyclops. According to Variety, Kevin Bacon is slated to play the movie’s villain and Jennifer Lawrence will play Mystique.

“Kick-Ass” helmer Matthew Vaughn is set to direct the film, which is scheduled for June 3, 2011.
