Casting Call: Christopher Meloni To Join ‘Superman’ Reboot Following ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Exit

Christopher Meloni fans, rejoice!

The handsome actor, who recently left “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” after 12 seasons on the hit show, will soon be seen on screens again — this time, as part of Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated “Superman” movie reboot.

Meloni, 50, revealed he has been cast as a General in “Man of Steel,” but remained tight-lipped regarding additional details, according to New York Magazine’s Vulture blog.

“I can’t tell you, or I’d have to kill you,” he told the blog in a story posted on Saturday when pressed for more information.

Meloni’s military man revelation puts to bed rampant online theories speculating that the small screen star may have been tapped to play Superman’s archenemy, Lex Luthor.

The superhero story’s most obvious military role (that of General Zod) can also be ruled out as a possible fit for Meloni – “Boardwalk Empire’s” Michael Shannon nabbed the villainous role back in April.

Other possibilities for the former “SVU” star include General Sam Lane (Lois Lane’s father), or General Wade Eiling.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Meloni joins British actor Henry Cavill, who is playing Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams who has signed on to play Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner who will play Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Additionally, Russell Crowe is reportedly in final negotiations to play Superman’s biological father, Jor-El.
