Casting Call: French Mermaid Gets Caught In Johnny Depp’s ‘Pirates’ Net

Johnny Depp has just hooked himself a “Pirates” mermaid.

French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey will take on her first English-speaking role, as a mermaid in the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

While Depp will return to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, series stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will not return for the fourth installment in the “Pirates” franchise.

The film, due for a May 2011 release, will also star Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane, along with Geoffrey Rush, who will return as Barbossa.

Berges-Frisbey has appeared in several French films, including “La Fille du Puisatier,” “Bruc,” “Extase” and “Un Barrage Contre le Pacifique.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the fourth “Pirates” film will be shot in Hawaii this summer.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, it’s believed the film will follow Captain Jack’s quest for the Fountain of Youth.

“Stranger Tides” will be directed by Rob Marshall, who worked with Cruz on “Nine,” for which the actress recently earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
