Casting Call: ‘Hanna’ Star Saoirse Ronan Reportedly To Star In Upcoming Screen Adaptation Of Stephenie Meyer’s ‘The Host’

Saoirse Ronan has reportedly been cast as the lead in a film adaptation of “The Twilight Saga” author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel, “The Host.”

The “Hanna” star will play Melanie Stryder, one of the only humans left battling an invasion of a parasitic alien race known as “Souls,” according to Deadline, which was first to report the casting news.

Additionally, Deadline reports Ronan will play both the role of Melanie and her would-be alien body invader, Wanderer.

Ronan, 17, starred in 2009’s “The Lovely Bones,” alongside Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz, and earned an Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in 2007’s romantic war drama, “Atonement” alongside James McAvoy.

Screenwriter Andrew Niccol – who penned the screenplay for 1997’s “Gattaca” and 1998’s “The Truman Show” – has been chosen to tackle the adaptation of Meyer’s sci-fi novel for film.
