Casting Call: Jennifer Garner Searches For ‘Truth’

Bruce Willis signs up for a “Surrogate.” Sean Penn’s got “Milk.” Plus, Jennifer Garner and Katherine Heigl each go searching for the “Truth” – but not together. It’s all in the latest edition of the Access Hollywood Casting Call…

Jennifer Garner is in talks to star opposite Ricky Gervais in the laugher “This Side of the Truth,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Set in a world where there’s no such thing as lying, Gervais plays an average Joe who learns how to lie and uses his skills to win over a beautiful woman (Garner).

The film is co-written and co-directed by Gervais.

Garner, who recently made her Broadway debut in “Cyrano de Bergerac,” will next be seen on the big screen in the dramedy “Juno,” alongside Jason Bateman, Ellen Page and Michael Cera.

Katherine Heigl will star in the romantic comedy “The Ugly Truth,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Directed by Robert Luketic (“Monster In Law;” “Legally Blonde”), the film follows a news producer (Heigl) who is forced to hire an obnoxious self-proclaimed relationship expert for her show.

But much to her surprise, his theories end up helping her land the man of her dreams.

Production is scheduled to begin April 15, 2008.

Heigl, who recently starred as an entertainment producer in “Knocked Up,” will next appear on the big screen in “27 Dresses,” co-starring James Marsden and Edward Burns.

Bruce Willis has signed on to star in the sci-fi thriller “The Surrogates,” reports Variety.

The film is set in the not-so-distant future, where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots who are better-looking versions of themselves.

Willis will play a cop who, through his surrogate, investigates the murders of others’ surrogates. However, the cop is forced to venture from his own home for the first time in years to unravel a conspiracy.

The studio is hoping production can begin in February in Boston.

Next up for Willis, who last appeared in “Live Free or Die Hard,” is the high school comedy “Assassination of a High School President,” co-starring Mischa Barton and Kathryn Morris.

Sean Penn will play the title character in “Milk,” the biopic about late gay-rights activist Harvey Milk, Variety reports.

Gus Van Sant will direct the film, with shooting slated to begin in January.

All filming will happen in San Francisco, where Milk became the first openly gay man elected to a public office in 1977. The next year, he and Mayor George Moscone were shot to death by city supervisor Dan White. Sexiest Man Alive Matt Damon has reportedly been in talks to play White.

But in a Truman Capote-biopic like race to produce the first “Milk,” Bryan Singer is also reportedly trying to make a biopicabout the assassinated activist.

Also in the works for the Oscar-winning Penn is the drama “Tree of Life,” alongside Heath Ledger.

Kathy Bates will star opposite Michelle Pfeiffer and Ashton Kutcher in the drama “Personal Effects,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

The film centers on a young man (Kutcher) who is seeking vengeance for the murder of his sister. But when he arrives in town, he becomes distracted by an attractive woman with a similar story (Pfeiffer).

Bates has been cast as Kutcher’s mom.

Production is scheduled to begin in Vancouver in November.
