Casting Call: Jeremy Renner Joins Tom Cruise For ‘Mission: Impossible 4’

Tom Cruise has found a new “Impossible” co-star – Jeremy Renner.

Renner, the breakout star of “The Hurt Locker,” has been tapped to star opposite Cruise in “Mission: Impossible 4,” Paramount Pictures confirmed to Access Hollywood.

“It’s a done deal,” the studio told Access on Thursday.

In July, a message posted to Cruise’s official Twitter page confirmed the mega-star would be returning to the franchise to reprise his role as super-spy Ethan Hunt for a fourth time.

Production is slated to begin in the fall with JJ Abrams once again on board as producer and Brad Bird directing. The studio is targeting a December 2011 release.

No details were available yet on Renner’s role, which is just the latest high profile gig for the budding superstar, who received an Oscar nod for his role no-hold-barred Staff. Sgt. William James in “The Hurt Locker.”

He’ll next be seen opposite Ben Affleck and Jon Hamm in the crime drama “The Town,” which hits theaters in September, and will then take his talents to the fanboy genre with a turn as Hawkeye in Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers,” due in 2012.
