Casting Call: Mark Wahlberg To Soar As ‘The Crow’?

He’s already shown he can talk to the animals on “Saturday Night Live,” but is Mark Wahlberg about to take flight as “The Crow”?

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor is in talks to reprise Brandon Lee’s lead character role, Eric Draven/The Crow, from Alex Proyas’ 1994 comic book cult classic.

Much like the original, the plot for the reboot would focus on a rock musician who comes back from beyond the grave to extract revenge on the thugs who murdered him and his fiancee.

Stephen Norrington (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” “Blade”) has been tapped to direct and write the new film, which is expected to begin production in winter 2011.

Wahlberg – whose most recent credits have taken a comedic turn with “Date Night” and “The Other Guys” – has a slew of upcoming projects in the works.

He’ll next be seen as real-life boxer Mickey Ward in “The Fighter,” and will likely reprise his roles for a pair of sequels – “The Departed 2” and “The Brazilian Job” (the follow up to 2003’s “The Italian Job.”
