Catching Fire: Josh Hutcherson Clarifies Hunger Games ‘Threesome’ Comment

Josh Hutcherson set tongues wagging last month after suggesting during a magazine interview that his “Hunger Games” character, Peeta Mellark, would be down for a threesome with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth).

Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson caught up with Josh and Jennifer at the Los Angeles junket for the franchise’s second installment, “Catching Fire,” where the 21-year-old actor said his headline-making statement wasn’t as juicy as it sounded.

“Let me clarify, first off, didn’t bring this idea up, this idea [of a threesome],” Josh told Shaun, of his interview in Out magazine. “I have to explain myself here!”

“Josh, you’re disgusting,” Jennifer interrupted, laughing.

“It was a thought. It was like, ‘Hey, do you think that if the three of them had a threesome it would make their lives easier?’” Josh explained. “I was like, ‘Yeah, that would probably help,’ and all of a sudden it became me saying that I think we should all have a threesome! It might help, who knows, I don’t know, sexuality is complicated.”

“Yeah, one love, everybody! One love,” joked Jennifer.

All kidding aside, Jennifer – who was sporting her sexy new pixie cut at the junket (don’t worry, she’ll wear a wig as Katniss) – said she knows what it’s like to have a quote made into something more than it was meant to be.

“I’ve had that before too, where somebody says something and you go, ‘Yeah…’ and then it’s like a direct quote, and I’m like, ‘Ahhh!’ I wasn’t listening, I was just nodding along!”

“Yeah, I just agreed to in a noncommittal way,” Josh added.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” hits theaters on November 22.
