CBS Cancels ‘Under The Dome’ After 3 Seasons

CBS is done with the “Dome.”

After three seasons, the network is canceling “Under the Dome,” it was announced on Monday.

As a result, the series – based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, which focuses on a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome – will use its upcoming September 10 season finale as a series finale.

“Two years ago, ‘Under The Dome’ broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. “‘Dome’s’ event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of ‘Extant’ and ‘Zoo.’ We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”

In the press release announcing the series’ cancellation, CBS promised, “when the Dome comes down, many questions about its origin and power will be answered, as two groups of residents engage in one final conflict that some won’t survive.”

Good news, though, for fans who want to relive/catch up on all three seasons — all three seasons will stream on Amazon Prime.
