Celine Dion was forced to take a break from her Las Vegas residency show recently, after husband Rene Angelil’s throat cancer returned.
Access Hollywood’s Liz Hernandez caught up with the superstar on Sunday night, where she gave us an update on Rene’s health.
“I needed to take a little break, but I have to say that Rene is doing really wonderful,” the singer told Access at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.
“He’s doing his best. He’s working really hard,” she continued. “I knew he was a champ, but he’s a bigger champ! He’s working really hard on coming back and we’re talking about the shows and making changes, which we’re doing. He’s part of every production meeting and he’s bringing ideas.”
Though getting back to good health hasn’t been an easy road for Rene, Celine said her husband is full of “happiness,” and she will soon return with a revamped show.
“The show has changed 30 to 40 percent,” she said. “And as people know, they know me well, they know my priority is my children, but they know that they’re my, my fans are my priority as well. So between mommy and an artist, I’m happy to be here really. I can’t wait.
“August 27th is my first show back and I can’t wait,” she added.
Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey now have Vegas shows as well – something Celine said makes her feel “stronger and stronger.”
“The girls are coming out!” she said. “I think Vegas is becoming the capital of the industry, of the show business. It’s all positive stuff. It’s so wonderful.”
Does she have any Sin City show advice for Mimi and J.Lo?
“I personally don’t think I should give any of those wonderful women any advice because they’ve been in the industry long enough to know what they need to do,” she said. “Give it their best shot and I’m sure they do.”
