Celine Dion Reveals Twins’ Names; Was Singer Carrying Triplets?

Celine Dion’s twin boys have been named!

The singer, who gave birth to the boys via cesarean section on Saturday, has named her babies Eddy and Nelson – and each name has a special meaning to the superstar.

Eddy is named after the late Eddy Marnay (the man who produced Celine’s first five records), according to People. Eddy passed away in 2003 at the age of 82.

“He was like a father to her,” Celine’s rep told the mag. “Eddy is a major influence in both Celine and Rene’s lives.”

Nelson was named after the beloved Nobel Peace Prize-winning former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, whom Celine met while kicking off her world tour in South Africa two year ago.

“Celine and Rene want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men,” the rep added.

Naming the new arrivals was quite a task for the family – Celine told French magazine Gala that she and Rene had been “going a little bit crazy trying to decide” on names, as her mother was pushing for a French names, and the couple’s son, 9-year-old Rene-Charles was pushing for American names

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the 42-year-old chart-topper gave birth to the fraternal twins at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday.

The new arrivals, who were placed in an incubator following their birth premature birth, were released from the hospital on Thursday.

In a Quebec TV interview (which aired on Thursday), the “Taking Chances” singer revealed that she was originally carrying triplets, but that the heart of the third fetus ceased beating early on in her pregnancy.

“He chose to let go to give space to his brothers to grow,” Celine said.

Celine’s husband, Rene Angelil, told the Canadian TV show that he and Celine were “crying” as she delivered the first of their twin boys on Saturday.

“We were both thinking about the time it took,” Rene told the show. “We are very lucky, very privileged and very fortunate to have these boys.”
