Channing Tatum’s wish to play mutant Gambit in an “X-Men” movie is coming true!
“X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed to Total Film that the “Magic Mike” star will play the kinetic energy-controlling, card-throwing Remy LeBeau in an upcoming movie.
“It is Channing, yes, yes… he’s a rogue, Channing, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau,” she said. “He can handle the action, as we know, and he’s got a real good heart, I know him personally.”

Adding, “He’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”
The 34-year-old actor has been very vocal about wanting to play the character.
“Gambit’s my favorite, ‘cause I’m from New Orleans — or around that area, my dad’s from New Orleans,” the actor previously told Total Film in 2012.

The actor said his desire to play Gambit is in no way an insult to Taylor Kitsch’s version of the mutant in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
“No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, ’cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people,” he said at the time.
“X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens on May 23. The next movie, “X-Men: Apocalypse,” is expected in May 2016.
