Channing Tatum Signs ‘Gambit’ Deal, Puts Rumors To Rest

Looks like Channing Tatum was dealt a good hand with “Gambit” after all.

The actor has reportedly closed a deal to star as the card-slinging mutant in at least one “X-Men” spin-off.

Despite rumors that the movie was in jeopardy after the actor had alleged trouble negotiating with 20th Century Fox, The Hollywood Reporter said on Saturday that Channing and the studio have come to terms for the superhero film.

According to the mag, the reported rift between Channing and Fox was nothing more than the typical “back-and-forth” commonly seen in “top-level talent dealmaking” and his role “hardly was in any real danger.”

The news likely comes as little surprise to Channing fans, as the actor has already made public appearances in support of the franchise. The “Magic Mike” star cameoed alongside his fellow X-Men at the 20th Century Fox Comic-Con panel in July, and has gone on record expressing his personal affinity for the character.

What remains to be seen is Channing’s long-term commitment to playing the New Orleans thief, THR said.

Fox is reportedly hoping Gambit can have a similar cinematic future as iconic X-Man Wolverine, whom Hugh Jackman has portrayed in numerous titles since 2000.

Channing is certainly no stranger to sequels, having starred in follow-ups to both “Magic Mike” and “21 Jump Street.”

“Gambit” is slated for release in October 2016.
