Charles Michael Davis Previews ‘Big’ Mid-Season Finale On ‘The Originals’

High stakes drama has been packed into every episode of Season 2 of “The Originals,” but Monday’s mid-season finale may raise the bar.

“I can tell you that based off the ending, it’s a really big episode,” Charles Michael Davis told Access Hollywood. “It introduces a lot of new elements, which will forever change the trajectory of where our show is going. So what happened with the [Season 1] finale, where we saw some of the family members like Mikael come back and it really changed things, there’ll be some elements that will come in and change their world.”

Last week’s episode set up quite a bit of drama on many levels, including Cami (Leah Pipes) finding out (courtesy of Yusuf Gatewood’s Finn) that when Esther took her, the Mikaelson mom prepped her in the hopes of using her as the host body for her daughter, Rebekah. It also saw Davina (Danielle Campbell) having to give up her latest plan to hurt Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and begin to work with her enemy to stop Esther – at the urging of Marcel.

“He’s been trying to control and protect those closest to him, especially Davina and Cami and now we see Davina and Cami start to gain their own strength and their own voice, especially with what happened with Cami, in 208, in the last episode finding out… she’s got that tattoo that she didn’t even want or ask for and now she’s gonna have somebody else jump into her body,” Charles said about the markings on Cami’s back, which Esther put there with Rebekah in mind.

While Marcel won’t be able to change things for Cami singlehandedly (they’ll need the whole gang to try and stop Esther’s plans), Charles’ character can provide his human friend/on-off girlfriend Cami, comfort.

“She’s dealing with a lot and so Marcel can’t do much to help her except let her express herself,” Charles said.

While he’s no longer king of New Orleans, Marcel still has influence over those closest to him, like Davina. Although, she has made a number of bad moves without letting him in on them (like bringing back Mikael).

“She’s not making really good life choices right now, but I think maybe that’s part of Marcel’s wisdom is he’s gonna let her grow and learn on her own. But yeah, some of her choices and decisions are making things a little bit complicated in their world, but she’s trying to recover and she’s gonna be working with Kaleb to concoct some kind of spell to see if they can help out Cami and everyone,” he told Access.

Monday’s episode will feature a flashback involving Marcel, Klaus and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic), and it has something to do with a Dowager (a wealthy, titled widow) and a diamond.

“There’s probably going to be something where someone needs that diamond for some reason. It’s probably going to be important,” Charles said, hinting at the scene. “It’s nice to always have those flashbacks. … We get to wear top hats and we were pretty excited to be all dressed up and you’ll get to see that in the scene.”

Previews have revealed that in the mid-season finale, Klaus will be reunited with his daughter, Hope, and while we don’t know if Marcel will have any baby scenes, Charles said having infants on set (Hope is played by 3-4 babies) has had a reaction behind the scenes

“It brings about this baby fever and a lot of the girls want now to have a baby and they want now to build a little room for the baby and they thought about maybe turning my dressing room into a little nursery,” Charles said of the jokes behind the scenes.

“Most of the guys just kind of want a workout room, that’s where our heads are at, so we’re trying to like counter balance that and kind of distract them,” he added.

“The Originals” mid-season finale airs Monday at 8/7c on The CW.
