Charlize Theron Opens Up About Adopting Son Jackson & Life As A Single Mom

Charlize Theron recently became the proud new mom of a baby boy, Jackson, and the 36-year-old beauty says she’s always known she would adopt.

“My mother found a letter that I wrote when I was 8 years old that said, ‘Would you please take me to an orphanage, so that I can go and adopt a baby?’” Charlize told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush at CinemaCon 2012 in Las Vegas, when asked how long adoption had been a dream of hers. “So, I think it’s been a while!

“I always knew I would adopt — always,” she added.

While the Oscar-winning actress may have hoped she would be welcoming a child alongside a spouse, Charlize said she’s happily adjusting to life as a single mom.

“I hope [I’ll marry], yeah. I always thought it would be a mixture — I never thought that this would be, you know, I don’t think any mother aims to be a single mom,” she told Billy. “I didn’t wish for that, but it happened. It unfolded the way it’s supposed to unfold and if in the future I am fortunate enough to meet somebody, yeah, I would totally consider that.”

Helping the “Snow White and the Huntsman” star manage her busy schedule is Charlize’s mom, Gerda.

“My mom is pretty amazing,” she told Billy. “I left today, I’m getting on a plane back tonight, and [she and Jackson] were at Macy’s shopping, so I’m hoping my credit card is OK!”

As the star of two highly-anticipated upcoming films (“… Huntsman” and Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus”), the new mom has little time for dating at the moment.

“I’m really busy, I have a priority in my life now and I also have two films that are coming out, so I have responsibilities with my job and those are the things that are kind of like, sucking up my time right now,” Charlize said. “But, you know, I have an amazing group of friends and support system and a lot of people think when I go and am around those people that I’m dating [them], and that’s not necessarily the case.”

“Snow White and the Huntsman,” co-starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth hits theaters on June 1.

“Prometheus” is slated for theatrical release just one week later, on June 8.
