Charlize Theron Ready For ‘Battle’

LOS ANGELES (October 24, 2006) — Charlize Theron is set to head into “Battle” — and she’s bringing OutKast’s Andre 3000 with her.

Theron will star in the film “The Battle In Seattle,” alongside Andre Benjamin (aka Andre 3000), Woody Harrelson and Ray Liotta, reports Variety.

The political drama is set against the backdrop of the 1999 World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle. Using several interlocking story lines (a la “Crash”), the movie will tell the story of the WTO meeting and ensuing riots from various perspectives, such as those of protesters, pedestrians, politicos, police and WTO delegates.

During the five-day WTO meeting in 1999, tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of Seattle. But what started out as a peaceful protest intended to stop the talks, soon escalated into a riot and eventual state of emergency, with the National Guard called in.

The pic will be written and directed by actor (and Charlize’s boyfriend) Stuart Townsend. It will mark the directorial debut for Townsend.

Theron’s other film credits include “2 Days In The Valley,” “The Italian Job,” “Aeon Flux” and “North County.” She won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in the drama “Monster” in 2004.

“The Battle In Seattle” is slated to start filming in November.
