Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer Credit Fans For Keeping Them On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Chaz Bono has a great appreciation for the fans that kept the author and activist on “Dancing with the Stars” another week.

”[I’m] so grateful for everybody who voted for us, because you do really want to be here and it’s important,” Chaz told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson on Tuesday night, backstage at “DWTS.”

The son of legendary entertainer Cher seemed in danger of going home on Tuesday night’s results show, after he, and professional partner, Lacey Schwimmer, landed at the bottom of the leaderboard following Monday’s competition quickstep.

The judges gave the pair just 17 out of 30 points, but it was actually 21-point scoring Elisabetta Canalis and Val Chmerkovskiy, who went home.

Chaz and Lacey said they knew it was the viewers’ votes that put them through, making up for the judges’ low marks.

“The audience has shown time and time again that they really don’t care what the judges have to say,” Lacey said. “They vote for who they want to see here, and I think that’s really what happened tonight. I’m so, so, so thankful for that.”

Chaz was hindered on his quickstep due to a right side knee and ankle injury and he told Shaun he is working hard on his recovery.

“I’m doing as much physical therapy treatment as I can do,” he said. “As soon as I leave here, I’m going home to get [an] ultrasound treatment on it, and different stuff. And I’ll ice it and go to bed.”

The pair is preparing a rumba for next week’s competition and Lacey said it would have significance to her partner.

“It’s not going to be your typical romantic rumba. It’s actually very sentimental and really special, especially to Chaz,” she said.

“I’m just glad we got saved to be able to do it, because it means a lot to me,” Chaz added.

“Dancing with the Stars” returns on Monday at 8/7 C on ABC.
