Chris Evans Suits Up As ‘Captain America’

He’s already heated up the big screen as Johnny Storm in two “Fantastic Four” movies, and now Chris Evans will reportedly defend freedom and take down evildoers as Steve Rogers in “The First Avenger: Captain America.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the news that the 28-year-old actor had been offered the role of the shield-slinging American hero in up to three movies, plus, “The Avengers” movies, Chris has accepted Marvel’s offer after mulling it over for a few days.

He beat out a slew of other actors who had been vying for the role, which reportedly included Channing Tatum, “The Young and the Restless” star Wilson Bethel, “She’s Out of My League’s” Mike Vogel and Garrett Hedlund from “Tron Legacy.” Familiar TV actors such as “Gossip Girl’s” Chace Crawford and “The Office’s” John Krasinski also reportedly tested for the coveted role.

Comic book fans pondering how Chris can play both Captain America and Johnny Storm can rest easy. In August, FOX said it’s planning to reboot the “Fantastic Four” franchise with a new cast.

When contacted by Access Hollywood, Marvel would not confirm the casting news.
