Chris Hemsworth Calls ‘Avengers’ Action Scenes ‘One Of The Biggest Things To Happen In My Life!’

The cast of next summer’s highly anticipated “The Avengers” promises the ensemble super hero movie will bring the action.

Access Hollywood caught up with many of the movie’s stars at Disney’s D23 Expo 2011 over the weekend, where they talked about recently filming action sequences in Cleveland, which doubles as New York City for the movie.

“I think we blew up 20 cars up in that sequence,” Chris, who plays Thor, told Access. “It was one of the biggest things to happen in my life.”

Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, told Access he’ll be serving up plenty of trademark Tony Stark snark.

“I crack a couple of jokes, then [Thor] comes in and does all the fighting and sells all the masculinity, then I crack a joke or two and say something highly technological and then we make a good movie,” Robert joked.

Tom Hiddleston, who plays the nefarious god Loki, revealed to Access that the recent action scenes are an important storyline in the upcoming movie.

“That’s basically Manhattan being destroyed by Loki’s arm,” the actor explained. “I’m not allowed to be specific about how that army is made up but that’s the battle for Manhattan… I’m blowing up the city and The Avengers are trying to stop me.”

Tom said he was in awe when he finally laid eyes on Earth’s mightiest heroes.

“There was one scene at the end of the film where I’m looking up at The Avengers assembled and you’ve got Thor and Captain America and Iron Man and Hawkeye and Black Widow and the Incredible Hulk and they’re staring you down,” he continued. “And that was the day I realized we were definitively making ‘The Avengers’!”

So, which hero is mightiest when it comes to their costume?

“They’re all pretty good, I mean the Iron Man costume is full of his fancy metals and contraptions and jet-streaming laser beam things and Captain America’s suit’s a big American flag and Thor’s got a big red cape,” an undecided Chris told Access. “They’re all pretty fancy.”

Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye, and Scarlett Johansson, The Black Widow, feel that Mark Ruffalo’s motion capture suit needed to play Hulk takes the prize.

“Mark Ruffalos’ CGI suit, little black and white dots,” Scarlett said.

“With the tiara,” Jeremy said.

“He wears the little princess crown, super threatening,” Scarlett continued.

“And then the dance shoes, poor guy. He really does have an awful outfit,” Jeremy added.

“The Avengers” is slated to debut in May 2012.
