Chris Hemsworth Reveals Thor Diet Secrets; Talks ‘Healthy’ Driving Rivalry With Wife Elsa Pataky

Chris Hemsworth has had to mold his physique into vastly different shapes in recent years in order to take on multiple movie characters.

For “Thor,” the actor had to bulk up to play the Norse god, but for the role of Formula One driver James Hunt in Ron Howard’s “Rush,” Chris had to drastically slim down. So how does he do it?

“You kind of feel like a professional athlete at times — it become so much about that,” Chris told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent at the “Thor: The Dark World” junket in London this weekend, when asked about his ever-changing body. “But to be able to have learnt this much about health and fitness is an advantage. And I’ve always done it in a healthy way.

“They’re extremes I guess, but it’s either by eating a lot of vegetables and minimal protein, or lots of protein and lots of vegetables,” he explained.

While the 30-year-old Aussie actor said he’s always been somewhat of a “disciplined” person, the physical demands of his career have forced him to learn to be even stricter.

“I have a pretty disciplined sort of attitude, but not eating chocolate and pizza and hamburgers and all the things you want to jump into has been something I’ve had to [work on],” he said.

Between “Thor,” 2012’s “The Avengers,” “Rush” and “The Dark World,” Chris hasn’t had much of a break – but you won’t catch the hunky blond complaining!

“I haven’t been able to put the hand brake on yet, but you strike while the iron is hot,” he said. “And there have a been a few opportunities for me in the last couple of years that I couldn’t turn away from.”

Adding, “At Christmas time we’re going to have a bit of a break before we jump into ‘Avengers’ again.”

Chris is married to “Fast & Furious 6” beauty Elsa Pataky, so we had to ask – now that he’s got “Rush” under his belt, who’s the better driver?

“That’s a bit of a dispute in our house, because there’s a go-kart track back where I’m from and [Elsa and I] have had a few laps around there. She’s come up in front a few times and so have I,” he said with a laugh. “So it’s a good rivalry going on there — a healthy one.”

“Thor: The Dark World” hits theaters on November 8.
