Christie Brinkley & Peter Cook’s War Of Words Heats Up

Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook divorced in 2008 and four years later, tensions continue to flare between the former couple.

“I’m here not to attack Christie Brinkley, but to defend myself, because to be called a deadbeat dad to me is such a horrible, vengeful, spiteful thing to say, besides the fact that it’s totally untrue,” Cook said during an interview with ABC News, which aired on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday.

“Am I the villain that you’re going to publicly castrate – as she’s currently doing in the press – or am I the good dad? Because in a few weeks she’s going to surrender the kids to me again fulltime,” Cook continued. “So, which is it?”

Cook told ABC News’ Elizabeth Vargas that Brinkley unleashed a public display of “deception” by filing court papers alleging he failed to pay child support for their two children, Jack, 16 and Sailor, 13, during her recent stint in “Chicago.”

“The problem is that Ms. Brinkley filed a claim that I wasn’t paying child support when she took off to do Broadway last March through June,” Cook claimed. “She put the children in my fulltime care, so I wrote her lawyers and said, ‘Hey, she’s gone, I got the children fulltime. How about we reverse child support for this time period?

“So, you asked not to pay child support to her during the time period you have the kids,” Vargas asked.

“Correct,” Cook answered.

According to multiple reports, Brinkley is also seeking an additional $140,000 dollars from Cook for allegedly sending offensive e-mails and bullying her. The former couple’s divorce settlement reportedly requires the pair to pay each other $5,000 dollars for every derogatory remark made to one another.

Cook recently told The New York Daily News, “Christie Brinkley is far more concerned with the mirror than her children… her Billy Joel ‘Uptown Girl’ music video fame faded long ago and the only thing left for her to garner media attention is to continue to publicize the tawdry details of her nasty divorce.”

Brinkley’s attorney released a statement to Access Hollywood on Wednesday.

“Peter Cook continues to go on national television to malign his ex-wife and hurt his family by spreading lies in a desperate smear campaign. The Court granted Christie sole legal and residential custody and final decision making power for their children – Peter’s claims of being the ‘primary caregiver’ are delusional. In contrast to her ex-husband, Christie has honored the confidentiality agreement and follows Court orders, and when she’s away for more than two days, per the Court, the kids are required to be with their father —something Christie fought against. And her bitter ex even prevented Christie, a working mom, from seeing her kids on her one day off from performing,” Tom Campagna, Brinkley’s attorney, said in a statement.

Adding, “His claims of paying twice his child support are a joke, and in fact, he’s been regularly behind in payments. But Christie will not take the bait and, while it is painful, she will stand up for herself and her children and refuses to be bullied.”
