Christopher Nolan Gives Future Batman Directors Advice

“The Dark Knight Rises” director Christopher Nolan has just one bit of advice for future directors taking on movies about Batman.

“The only advice I would have is that… when I first met with Paul Levitz of DC Comics prior to ‘Batman Begins,’ he explained to me clearly that Batman, of all superheroes, has thrived on reinterpretation and almost is strengthened by it. And I’m talking about over the years in the comic books but also in the movies,” the famed director told Empire during a recent podcast.

“So when the time is right, whenever someone does whatever the next iteration of the character is, they simply need to be true,” he continued. “To whatever it is they want to see, to what they believe in, not worry too much about what everyone else is telling them it should be.”

Nolan previously told Access Hollywood that his time with the Caped Crusader is over.

“I’m done, we’ve been working on this for about nine years,” he told Access prior to the release of the latest Batman movie. “I’ve really, really enjoyed it. It’s really exciting to get to the end and I’ve got to move on and figure out something else to do.”

The director might be finished with Gotham, but he thinks Anne Hathaway should continue on with the role of Catwoman/Selina Kyle. Find out more on his thoughts about a Catwoman spin-off, HERE!
