Comic-Con: ‘Blindspot’ Star Jaimie Alexander Talks All Those Tattoos

Getting into character is the primary objective for any actor, but “Blindspot” star Jaimie Alexander has her work especially cut out for her.

She has hardly any idea who her latest character is.

The “Thor” actress talked with Access Hollywood at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday about headlining a series in which the lead role is someone completely unknown to herself, her co-stars and her audience. Luckily, she said, that’s all part of the fun.

In the upcoming NBC drama, Jaimie stars as Jane Doe, a striking and mysterious young woman who wakes up frightened, confused and naked in Times Square with no memory and a fresh set of intricate tattoos covering her entire body.

“I was like, ‘I’ve done that before,’ minus the tattoos,” Jaimie joked of the premise.

After careful observation from the FBI, it’s discovered Jane is equipped with a set of skills only seen in trained military operatives and covert government agents, including lightning-quick combat reflexes and fluency in more than a dozen languages.

The truth surrounding Jane’s identity and purpose begins to reveal itself from week to week, but the raven-haired beauty explained that it’s Jane herself who holds the ultimate key.

In fact, it’s literally staring everyone in the face.

“Episode 2, you’ll start to figure out something really major with the tattoos,” she teased.

What makes “Blindspot” must-see TV, Jaimie said, is its focus on both suspense and reward. By keeping the mystery intact while still presenting tangible clues, the series adopts a unique and compelling structure that’s meant to defy typical case-of-the-week dramas.

“This is a fast-paced show. It’s not redundant – a lot of procedurals get a little tiring that way,” she said. “Something crazy happens every episode that skyrockets the storyline.”

Jane begins to assist the FBI with various missions that will serve as subplots for each episode, but Jaimie told Access that the goal for “Blindspot’s” first season is to keep viewers clamoring for more information about who Jane is and what happened to her.

“You will know a great deal,” she said. “From what I’ve been pitched, it’s so interwoven and it’s so not what you expect it kind of blew me away. I’m so excited for this to just get on the air.”

Jaimie’s fiance, “Twilight” and “Nurse Jackie” actor Peter Facinelli, was nearby during the Access interview, and even joined her on-camera to weigh in on his lady’s faux ink.

“He thinks they’re cool, and the kids think they’re cool,” Jaime said of her extensive body art for the show.

“It’s very sexy,” Peter agreed.

Jaimie told Access she doesn’t mind the long preparation required to embody Jane Doe’s unique aesthetic. With nine real tattoos of her own, after all, she’s no stranger to the process. However, there are some delicate components she hadn’t quite anticipated.

“Can I say ‘butt crack’? Yeah. That’s fun,” she said of the most uncomfortable place to “wear” her costume. “That’s hand painted, I’ll just let you know.”

As for whether Peter might take inspiration from her “Blindspot” look for himself, Jaimie said she’s already thought of that.

“He doesn’t have any tattoos yet, but I’m working on it,” she smiled.

“Blindspot” premieres Sept. 21 at 10 ET/PT on NBC.
