Confirmed: Betty White Headed To ‘Saturday Night Live’

Facebook users have been granted their wish – Betty White is headed to “Saturday Night Live.”

The 88-year-old actress will host the show on May 8, where she will be joined by a slew of six former female late night players: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

“Years ago, I turned it down three times,” Betty told Access. “It’s so New York, and I’m not New York at all. But my agent said he’d divorce me if I didn’t do it, and I love my agent.”

Betty’s agent, Jeff Witjas, told the paper he was joking, saying, “It’s perfect timing for her career right now. I said, ‘Do it now, or when you’re 95.’”

“SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels said he has “always wanted” Betty to host the longtime NBC comedy sketch show and that the Facebook campaign helped.

“It took on a groundswell,” Michaels said. “It isn’t something we would have said no to… it was the outpouring of affection from fans, and we feel the same way… she’s the mother of us all in comedy, so it will be a celebration of Betty White.”

Lorne stressed that even though they have an ensemble of guest stars for the May 8 episode, that Betty is the solo host for the night.

“It’s lovely, and at my age it’s certainly unexpected.” Betty said, explaining that she’s ready for the demanding “SNL” workload. “I’ve got so much energy, it’s ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I’m used to that.”
