“Cougar Town” makes its leap from ABC to TBS on January 8, and there will be just one small change when the show premieres its fourth season at 10 PM ET/PT – more cleavage!
“There is one difference, I think I’m allowed to say… which is Courteney [Cox] did declare this year the year of her cleavage,” Executive Producer Bill Lawrence told reporters at the Television Critics Association Winter Tour 2013, in Pasadena, Calif., on Friday morning – after presenting mimosas to journalists in the room.
“You will not see one scene that I don’t show my boobs,” Courteney, who plays the newly-wed Julies Cobb on the show, chimed in. “You know what? I’m getting older, so I’ve decided at this point I’m taking less focus off the face, and focusing here (points to chest). By the time I’m much older, I will just be absolutely nude. I think it’s gonna work for me, I hope.”
Despite their move to cable, actual visible nudity won’t actually be on the program, but it will become a plot point in an upcoming episode involving Jules and Grayson (Josh Hopkins), who tied the knot in Season 3.
“One day, in trying to keep our marriage alive, we have an event,” Courteney told reporters of what’s ahead for Jules and Grayson. “We have ‘Naked Day,’ you know, where you spend the whole day naked? But there happens to be only one spot in the house that I can stand in where the light comes from all angles. You step out of it? Disgusting. That was one of our things that we did.”
“And we all come over and are unfazed by both of them naked, which irritates Josh to no end,” Christa Miller, who plays Ellie, chimed in.
While nudity gets a plot line, actress Busy Philipps’ real-life pregnancy will not be featured in the comedy, involving her character, Laurie. She confirmed that they were already late into shooting Season 4 when she was just starting to show.
“Just so everybody knows – ‘cause there have been a lot of questions — it’s not on the show,” she said. “We hid it because I was newly pregnant towards the end of shooting and then I’ll have the baby before we hopefully come back.”
