Courtney Love On Rehab, Buddhism & Britney

Images of Britney Spears strapped to a gurney in early 2008 shocked many, but she wasn’t the first celebrity to have it happen to her. In 2004, rocker Courtney Love was also photographed handcuffed to a gurney, about to be committed for her own erratic behavior.

Now, in her first interview in over a year, Courtney reveals what really happened, and her thoughts on Britney.

“You know, I was in rehab, what was that, three-and-a-half years ago now? And it worked,” Love told Access Hollywood.

Claiming sobriety for years, Courtney Love watches as Britney crumbles.

Britney’s troubled times has this recovering addict worried.

“I know the exactitudes of what’s going on, having been there,” Love said.

Now 43, her disheveled courtroom days and bizarre antics are behind her – at least for now.

“Here is what’s gonna happen if she doesn’t get help — something very, very bad is gonna happen,” Love explained of Britney. “Marilyn Monroe was strapped to a gurney too, but other then me and Britney, no one else has ever been strapped to a gurney.”

Back in the summer of 2004, Courtney was hospitalized after being found irrational and distressed.

“And I sort of made that template pretty hardcore,” Love said.

Love said she hopes the public will become better informed about drugs.

“People need to be more educated about drugs and the effect of drugs,” she said. “It has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, it is a genetic condition and it is a disease… It’s a part of our brain that doesn’t care about consequences, doesn’t care if our children are gonna get taken away.”

Love credits actor Orlando Bloom of all people, for helping her stay on the straight and narrow by helping her keep up with the Buddhist practice of chanting.

“We do chant everyday,” Love explained. “12-step demands that you have a spiritual practice that you do everyday.

“I love Orlando for this,” Love continued. “He doesn’t mind being outed [as a Buddhist]. I don’t mind talking about it because it has changed my entire life, changed everything — restructured my body, restructured my physicality. Truly I can, not all the time, but I can take joy at really ****ty situations.”

Now in a much more peaceful place, Love told Access, she’s ready to reach out to Spears and she also claims to once have confronted Lindsay Lohan.

“I went up to Lohan’s room one time and there was a show on called ‘101 Celebrity Oops’ and I am like every other one you know, boobs out, legs everywhere throwing **** at Madonna, you know, whatever. I’m like Lindsay, ‘Look! Drugs are bad!’” Love recalled.

But now, Love has to deal with the pressures of young Hollywood in her own home.

Her 15-year-old daughter, Frances Bean, is now getting her own taste of celebrity by jumping into the modeling world.

“Frances — she just did her first Harper’s Bazaar. It is huge,” Love said.

The teen posed in a dark wig as “Grease’s” bad girl Rizzo, for the March issue of the magazine, her mom not allowed anywhere in sight.

“She won’t let me come to the set! Nobody mom is cool at 50,” Love said.
