Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars Crowns Mirrorball Champs

After 15 seasons, “Dancing with the Stars” has crowned its first “All-Star” winner.

(SPOILER! This story contains the results of Tuesday’s “DWTS” final.)

Reality TV personality Melissa Rycroft has won the battle of the belles, sambaing her way to the “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” mirrorball, with her professional partner, Tony Dovolani.

In the first win for both the “Star” and her pro. They beat out Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough who came in second place, and “General Hospital” actress Kelly Monaco and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, who landed in third.

It’s fair to say that Melissa and Tony were absolutely floored after they heard show co-host Tom Bergeron say, “Now they have one too – Melissa and Tony,” indicating their mirrorball win.

Their mouths dropped open and they began jumping up and down. Tony even appeared to curse, but ABC censors cut out his expletive as he screamed for joy.

Melissa and Tony were the only pair in the finals without a mirrorball (Kelly won Season 1, and Shawn took home the title in Season 8, which was also Melissa’s previous season), but they were actually the only team in the final round dancing with their original partner.

The duo went into Tuesday’s instant dance — the last portion of their score — at the top of the leaderboard, having impressed the judges on Monday into giving them two perfect 30s with their repeat samba from Week 3, and a contemporary freestyle.

And while their instant dance – another samba, this time to “Life is A Highway” – wasn’t perfect, it didn’t keep them from the big prize.

“The interpretation wasn’t quite as it was last night,” judge Len Goodman said as they earned 28.5 for their final “DWTS” score. “[But] you have been my greatest pleasure to watch, you’ve been fantastic.”

In fact, only Shawn and Derek earned a perfect score in the instant dance round, with a crowd pleasing cha cha to “Respect.” Kelly and Val’s jive was called “magnificent” by Bruno, but the pair earned just 28.5.

Melissa and Tony’s win was a great end to a great season for the pair. They had the most perfect scores of the final 3 – five 30-point scoring dances across the season. By contrast, Shawn and Derek had just four perfect scores during Season 15 (including their instant dance score), and Kelly and Val, sadly, never earned that top mark.

At the end of the night, Tony was hoisted up by Val and Maksim Chmerkovksiy, while Derek put Melissa on his shoulders as they all celebrated.
