DETROIT (February 8, 2007) — Daniel Baldwin was in Detroit working on a locally produced horror film when a warrant was ordered for him in California on charges he skipped a court hearing in a stolen car case.
The warrant was ordered Tuesday by a Superior Court judge in Newport Beach, Calif., the court said Thursday.
Baldwin, the brother of actors Alec, Stephen and William Baldwin, was in the Detroit area this week for the filming of “Little Red Devil,” which is being produced by Milford-based Skeleton Factory. He is playing Luc, the demonic title character.
He was charged in December with two felony counts of unlawfully taking a car and receiving stolen property. He could face up to three years in prison if convicted.
The district attorney’s office in Newport Beach said Baldwin missed his arraignment, so an arrest warrant was to be issued, though the office couldn’t say exactly when that would happen.
In a voicemail left with the Detroit Free Press, Baldwin said the accusation “is erroneous and a mistake. … It isn’t true. … I’m sober today, and I’m working real hard on my career and becoming a productive member of society.”
Baldwin has been free on bail since being arrested in Santa Monica, Calif., in November while driving a white 2003 GMC Yukon reported stolen in Orange County. At the time, the sheriff’s department said the vehicle belonged to a friend but Baldwin didn’t have permission to take it.
Baldwin, 46, appeared in the TV series “Homicide: Life on the Street” and the movie “Car 54, Where Are You?”
