Daniel Radcliffe: I Was Drunk At Times While Filming ‘Harry Potter’

Daniel Radcliffe was hitting something a little harder than just Butterbeer on nights before filming “Harry Potter.”

The 22-year-old actor reveals in a new interview with Britain’s Heat magazine that the effects of a night of heavy drinking would sometimes linger while he filmed his immensely popular boy wizard series.

“I have a very addictive personality. It was a problem,” Daniel, who has now given up drinking, told the mag.

“People with problems like that are very adept at hiding it. It was bad. I don’t want to go into details but I drank a lot and it was daily – I mean nightly,” he explained. “I can honestly say I never drank at work on ‘Harry Potter.’ I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work.”

Daniel, who is currently starring in “The Woman in Black,” said you can see the effects of his drinking in the films.

“I can point to many scenes where I’m just gone. Dead behind the eyes,” he told the mag.

Adding, “You either have to change something or give into that shame and I wasn’t prepared to do that at 21.”

The actor, who is now dating Rosie Coker, also opened up about dealing with “Potter” groupies.

“I was always very nervous about the groupie thing. I like to like somebody before I sleep with them, I really do. You know you’re going to have to talk to them afterwards, even if it is a one-night stand,” he explained. “I mean, that has happened, but generally speaking I’ve known the person.”
