David Archuleta’s Dad Banned From ‘American Idol’?

A new controversy has emerged behind the scenes at “American Idol” surrounding the alleged banning of Jeff Archuleta from his son David’s show rehearsals.

Last week, David Archuleta’s dad, Jeff, insisted that his son add a lyric from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” to “Stand By Me,” despite objections from “American Idol” producers. That proved to be the last straw for the father.

As a result, David’s dad was reportedly banned from the “Idol” rehearsals.

So, is the 17-year-old’s father really an overbearing stage father?

Along with changing the “Stand By Me” lyrics, Jeff is accused of interfering with the entire production, including badgering several other contestants.

David’s voice coach of 6-years, Dean Kaelin, however, calls the accusations ludicrous.

“I’ve never really seen him be anything except a concerned, caring parent,” Kaelin said. “I’ve never seen him raise his voice to David or berate him.”

Even Simon, who took his mom Julie out for a Mother’s Day lunch over the weekend at paparazzi hotspot The Ivy, said there has been no bad behavior.

“He’s been quiet,” Simon said. “No problems.”

But sources close to Access Hollywood tell a different story. They say David’s dad is a total nightmare. On CBS’s “The Early Show” Kaelin again, disagreed.

“He hasn’t been banned from ‘American Idol,’ they just said as a fairness issue, he shouldn’t be back in the arranging room,” Kaelin said.

As a minor, David is still required to have a guardian present, so his father Jeff is allowed on the “Idol” set.
