Just a day after Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced they are separating, David called into “The Howard Stern Show” on Sirius Satellite Radio on Tuesday and revealed a slew of alleged details about the couple’s relationship.
“I’m heartbroken,” David said of his separation from Courteney. “I’m not the one who called this separation in order…we’re still in love with each, we’re still best friends.”
According to David, he and his wife of 11 years began to drift away from each other.
“After our 11th year anniversary she gave me the motorcycle and said, ‘I don’t want to be your mother anymore,’” David said in the interview recalling a past incident with Courteney.
The couple’s alleged problems continued when they traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to film the latest chapter in the “Scream” franchise.
“We go to do ‘Scream 4’ and I’m feeling distance, obviously, from my wife. We have not had sex in quite… a month or so… we’re not having sex and I completely understand,” he continued. “She’s in a very, a place of wanting to be real and emotional. She’s an emotional being. She’s an amazing woman… that if it doesn’t feel right… she doesn’t feel like bonding in that way.”
David told Howard that following their time on “Scream 4” they decided to attempt a “trial separation.”
“We’re still tight, I love her with all my heart and she loves me with all her heart,” David explained, also claiming that during the separation he was free to be intimate with other women. “We get a trial separation, we have agreements with it. She knows she’s not f***ing me and she’s like, ‘Listen, I want you to be able to, you know, do whatever you have to do. Essentially, free to see people.’”
“So, she’s free to see people, that’s what she wanted?” Howard asked.
“Maybe,” David replied.
The 39-year-old actor denied that he was dating anyone, but acknowledged that he’d been with another woman once, “maybe twice.”
He would not name the woman, but confirmed to Howard the girl in question was the same one being widely reported, who is Jasmine Waltz.
David said he doesn’t believe rumors that Courteney strayed from their relationship with “Cougar Town” co-star Brian Van Holt.
“I truly don’t think she ever had an affair with Brian Van Holt,” he said, explaining that he allegedly confronted her about it. “She denied it, I do believe her… on an emotional level. I think she may have… bonded with him, yes.”
David said they told their 6-year-old daughter, Coco, about the separation during a picnic on the beach.
”‘Are you guys getting divorced?’” he recalled Coco asking and he told her, “‘No, we’re taking time off to know … what we want out of our mate better.’”
He ended the interview on a small note of hope.
“I love her with all my heart and she loves me with all her heart … We’re trying to get real with each other, real with ourselves,” David said. “I want her to be happy… more than I want happiness for myself.”
